Claire Dickinson, Group Finance Director at AES Engineering Ltd. based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire has been awarded the Best Northern Finance Director of a Global Company Award at Northern Finance Director Awards, hosted by The Business Desk.

Claire was one of two prominent female Yorkshire based Finance Directors, who were recognised at the awards.

In a recent interview with an apprentice, when asked about her experience being a female in the male dominated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) industry, Claire said: “I think every role is challenging regardless of gender.

I actually embrace it because I think as women we sometimes inherently have a different view on things, and just because you’ve got a different opinion doesn’t make it wrong. It actually makes the thought process around what we are doing more thought provoking because we are looking at it from all angles.

Confidently give across your opinion. There shouldn’t be a challenge in any work place because you are a woman, and I certainly don’t find that at AESSEAL®.”

AESSEAL® are proud to promote and encourage women to join the STEM industry, this includes scholarships with local universities and women in engineering events at the Global Headquarters, aimed at secondary students.

An article by STEM Women highlighted that in 2019 over 1 million women worked in the STEM industry, equating to 24% of the workforce. It is estimated that by 2030, over 29% of the STEM workforce will be women.

By highlighting the outstanding work of females, like Claire, in the industry, AESSEAL® hopes more women will choose a career in STEM.
